Rocky Mountain Fly Fisher Fly Fishing Colorado With Confidence
Aquatic Worms
These are not your garden variety worms! These live their entire lives under bodies of water, including the sand and silt of the river bottoms. As rivers are in constant change, the soil and organic matter that these guys live in is constantly on the move, and so are they. As a result they can often be found failing in the current making a great meal for trout.
This 23 incher caught by Dick Shinton in a small stream in Rocky Mountain National park speaks to how trout are always on the lookout for aquatic worms.
If you find the idea of fishing a worm imitation silly, then you are missing out on a great opportunity. They supply trout with a large meal for little effort, and trout will key in on them. Just like all the other flies in your box, you are simply imitating aquatic life, and who can really argue with the results!
